About the Forest Business Improvement Area (BIA)

The Forest Business Improvement Area (BIA) comprises of local downtown businesses, within a defined area, and focuses on the promotion of these businesses and the beautification of the area. Its main purpose is to stimulate the economy within the defined area through events and promotion of the downtown.

More generally, a BIA is an association of business people within a specified district who join together, with official approval of the Municipality, in a self-help program aimed at stimulating local business.

Forest has been home to its BIA since 1976. Its boundaries are: Watt to Union to Ann up to Prince across to Broadway. There are close to 60 businesses (members) operating within the Forest BIA area.

The BIA does the following:

  • Tourism promotion
  • Local advertising
  • Beautification initiatives
  • Local event hosting & sponsorship
  • & much more!
